Marcella Therese Szablewicz, daughter of Theresa M. and John W. Szablewicz of Woodbury, Connecticut, married Richard Kayser Parker II, the son of Patricia T. and Richard K. Parker of Greenwich. The Reverend David P. Marcotte of Fordham University performed the outdoor ceremony under a weeping willow tree at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and a reception followed at the Palm House.
The couple met at Georgetown University in 1999 at a rooftop party on campus. Rick, as the groom is known, wrote a song, “Three Steps from Village A,” to commemorate the three-year anniversary of their meeting and arranged the song for a string trio, which performed the piece during the wedding ceremony.
The bride graduated from the Taft School, Georgetown and received a master’s degree in China studies from Duke University. She is a first-year PhD student in communication and rhetoric at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
The groom graduated from Greenwich High School and Georgetown, and received a master’s in jazz performance and composition at New York University.
He is a professional trombonist who leads his own group, the Rick Parker Collective, and is the coproducer of the Williamsburg Jazz Festival.
The New York newlyweds honeymooned in Lake Placid.
