Domaine du Clos d’Alari — Cotes de Provence
![]() | St Tropez – Nice – Cannes – Cote d’Azur – Summer – Vacation – Nap. These words are all synonymous. It is only natural then that our first edition of “Wines of the Week” be about the Domaine Clos d’Alari, located just outside the village of St Antonin du Var, in Provence. The owner winemakers at the domaine are 2 women, a mother and her daughter, and this partnership really works. Their Rosé is fresh and dry, a pale salmon color, with a shy fruit and enough body to accompany any white meat. Although rosé is what made Provence wines famous - mainly because it was the mainstay of the partying jet set in the cafés of St Tropez in the sixties - the real treat for me are the reds. Full-bodied, velvety, with fairly soft tannins and a spicy finish; they are good young, yet the best of them are wonderful older. They marry beautifully with BBQ, especially lamb. |

Traveling the region:
By the way, if you happen to be in Provence this summer, make sure you go to the following places:

A wonderful tiny restaurant with only 5 tables. One star in the Michelin guide. He works in the kitchen, while she takes care of the guests. (Didn’t we see that movie?) Located in a charming village. You need to book at least 2 weeks ahead of time in summer.
Chez Bruno
Campagne Mariette

Everything here is about black truffles. The restaurant is magnificent, the welcome very warm.
La Bastide Saint Antoine

Mauro Colagreco is a young chef from Argentina; his cuisine has influences from Provence and Italy. The view is breathtaking.
