Nicole Bartko & Zachary Merten
Gale-force winds and rain couldn’t prevent friends and family from making it to the church on time for the wedding of Nicole Alexandra Bartko and Zachary Symonds Merten. The bridal party limousine skirted Westchester County to find a route to the Crestwood, New York, church that wasn’t flooded. The Very Reverend Leonid Kishkovsky, former head of the World Council of Churches and a family friend who had married the bride’s parents thirty years prior, officiated at St. Vladimir’s Russian Orthodox Seminary Chapel. A reception followed at the American Yacht Club in Rye. The Reverend Timothy Toohey, who had married the groom’s parents on the same day in 1975, gave the wedding blessing.
The bride, known as Niki, attended Greenwich Academy and graduated from Prescott College. The daughter of Penny and Max Bartko of Greenwich, she teaches at the Evergreen Montessori School in Evergreen, Colorado.
The groom, known as Zak, graduated from Prescott College. He is store manager of Bent Gate Mountaineering in Golden, Colorado. He is the son of Ann and Peter Merten of St. Louis, Missouri.
Following a honeymoon on Martha’s Vineyard and in Costa Rica, the couple returned home to Golden, Colorado.
